Diabetes Diet

Insulin is a very important hormone that breaks down any sugars in the body and converts it into fuel for muscles, fat, and the liver. Normally the pancreas generates a sufficient amount of insulin to deal with any sugars that enters the body. However it is known for the pancreas to generate an insufficient amount of insulin, or for the body to not react to the insulin it provides in the correct way. When this occurs it is known as diabetes.

Though there are two different strains of the disease the symptoms for diabetes remain very similar through both types, though the severity and pace of their appearance varies. Though blurry vision, fatigue, excess urination, weight loss, excess thirst and hunger are all signs and symptoms of diabetes, they only really manifest quickly in the case of the type 1 strain. Nobody knows the exact cause of the type 1 strain, and though it is often diagnosed in children it could appear at any time. The type two strain, a less serious version of the disease often caused by obesity has the symptoms appear slowly or even not at all. Due to the risk posed to overweight people of the type two strain they are often screened before symptoms become apparent. Some more serious symptoms for diabetes can appear later in a persons lifetime, such as serious eye problems, problems digesting, nerve damage and even skin necrosis focusing on the foot and leg. It is not unknown for a patient to have to have a lower limb amputated.
Though diabetes treatment for the type 2 strain can be completely effective with a lifestyle change or fat removing surgery, there is no cure for the late stage type 2 or type 1 form of the strain. There are medications to regulate the disease, the most well known being injections that can be used for emergency diabetes treatment by increasing the amount of insulin in the blood stream that can break down sugars. There is another way to regulate the disease however, as there is a strong correlation between diabetes and diet. As the disease stems from being unable to properly process sugar in your bloodstream, if you avoid sugars in your diet for diabetes sake then you will have less severe symptoms.
Unfortunately it is not quite that simple. Diet and diabetes have a strong correlation, but it is not as simple as avoiding sugars. Fats, salts, alcohol and some forms of carbohydrates can all cause issue if they appear in the diet for diabetes patients. Aside from avoiding as much of these things as possible it is also advised that in a “diet and diabetes” program that you try to spread out your meals throughout the day, having smaller meals and numerous snacks. This is to avoid your body receiving a large amount of blood sugar all at once. If you eat less sporadically during the day you will receive a more steady, smaller flow of sugar your body can handle more easily. Your diabetes and diet will thank you for not putting a strain on your body. Some other information for your “diet and diabetes” program is what foods to actively seek out. These include plant based fats, healthier carbohydrates, fiber and fish, as each of these fills a more diabetes friendly niche in the average persons diet.
If you ever feel that you have any of the signs and symptoms of diabetes, do not hesitate to go to a qualified physician. The type 2 strain can be cured if it is addressed early, and even the type 1 strain will get worst the longer it goes without receiving attention. As time goes on, more and more medical knowledge and resources will go towards diabetes research. One day we may well have a cure, but until then focus on staying aware of the best way to control the disease.
